My Journey into Functional Medicine: A Story of Transformation and Purpose
My path into functional medicine is a testament to resilience, discovery, and the pursuit of deeper healing. It represents the intersection of
personal tragedy, professional evolution, and decisive action during unprecedented times—a journey shaped by experience, intuition, and a relentless commitment to uncovering the truth behind health and disease.
Twenty-two years ago, my life was profoundly altered when my sister tragically passed from a massive blood clot. In the wake of her loss, we uncovered a genetic thread woven through our family—Factor V, Factor II, and MTHFR mutations—critical insights that would later shape my daughter’s own struggles with OCD, anxiety, and depression. When conventional treatments failed to provide her true relief, I realized firsthand that symptom suppression was not the answer. Healing required a
deeper exploration, a root-cause approach—one that traditional medicine had overlooked.
As an advanced practice nurse practitioner with nearly three decades in pediatrics and adult specialties, I had long observed the gaps in mainstream healthcare. The system’s reactive approach focused more on managing symptoms than cultivating sustainable wellness. Inspired by pioneering minds like Dr. Mark Hyman, Dr. Dan Pompa, Dr. Erika Schwartz, and Barbara O’Neil, I sought formal education in functional medicine, earning a post-master certification alongside specialized training in weight loss, peptide therapy, telehealth, and aesthetic medicine.
Then came 2020—the defining moment of my professional transformation. The COVID-19 pandemic tested the very foundations of medicine, compelling me to question conventional protocols. With years of clinical experience guiding me, I developed serious concerns about mainstream approaches to the crisis, particularly regarding vaccine safety. This watershed moment sparked my greatest professional reckoning—leading me to break away from conventional medicine entirely. It was a bold, irrevocable decision, yet one that I have never second-guessed.
Functional medicine became my calling, not just a career shift but a philosophical commitment—one that aligns with my deepest convictions. It embraces the complexity of human health, recognizing that genetic predispositions, environmental influences, and lifestyle choices work in tandem to shape well-being. Unlike traditional medicine, which views the body in isolated parts, functional medicine honors its interconnected nature—offering solutions that empower healing, rather than merely managing dysfunction.
Now, as I step forward in my practice, I am more driven than ever—determined to help patients reclaim their health through natural healing, whole foods, herbal wisdom, and education. No longer do I subscribe to polypharmacy’s empty promises—instead, I advocate for a return to time-honored traditions that nurtured generations before us.
For me, this transformation was not just professional—it was deeply personal. When I faced my own menopause journey, I realized that conventional medicine’s approach was failing women like me. The exhaustion, the hormonal imbalances, the feeling of disconnection from my own body—mainstream healthcare offered little more than temporary fixes, instead of addressing true vitality and longevity.
"I remember feeling exhausted and disconnected from my body. It wasn’t until I embraced functional medicine that I truly felt alive again. I want to share what worked for me so you don’t have to go through it alone."
This realization fueled my mission: to support health-conscious menopausal and post-menopausal women aged 50-65 in reclaiming energy, balance, and vitality in all areas of their lives. My approach is not just about managing symptoms—it’s about renewal. Through nutrition, herbal remedies, and deep education, I guide women in rediscovering their strength, resilience, and passion for life.
